PROCEDURE FOR PRE-PURCHASE OF PLOT
- Family contacts church to purchase a plot or plots.
- The family chooses the area they would like. Have them write down a name or take a picture of a stone near the area.
- We get the book, look up the name, see where the area is located then look at the pictures.
- We will poke the area to see if anyone might be buried in that area.
- The family is given a copy of the Rules and Regulations (found in the notebook), and a copy of the pricing.
- The Plot Deed (found in the notebook) is filled out by the family and then filled out by the committee and then notarized.
- Family pays for the plot. Checks are payable to: Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery.
- Paperwork is filed in the box sitting on top of the filing cabinets.
PROCEDURE FOR FUNERAL ARRANGMENTS
- The Family contacts the Funeral Home.
- The Funeral Home gives the family a price list.
- The Funeral Home contacts the Church.
- If the plot has NOT been purchased, the Funeral Home will have the family contact the church to purchase the plot.
- The family will meet with someone from the Cemetery Committee to choose a plot.
- The family is given a copy of the Rules and Regulations (found in the notebook).
- The Plot Deed (found in the notebook) is filled out by the family and then filled out by the committee and then notarized.
- Family pays for the plot. Checks are payable to: Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery.
- Paperwork is filed in the box sitting on top of the filing cabinets.
RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR HOLY CROSS EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH CEMETERY
As being in Conformance with the requirements of the law
Adopted by Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery Committee 2020
1. All lots in the Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, Farnham, New York are sold in
accordance with the provisions of the Laws of the State of New York, and shall not be used for
any purpose than a burial place for deceased human beings.
2. No interment shall be allowed without a permit and the following information:
A. Name of deceased
B. Age of deceased (including date of birth, if known)
C. Place of birth of the deceased (if known)
D. Date of death
E. Time and date of interment
F. If not an adult, the names of parent(s) or legal guardian of deceased
G. Name of Funeral Director
3. Lot owners are prohibited from allowing interments to be made on their lots for compensation.
4. All cremains must be placed in a cremains vault as part of the burial process
5. The full purchase price must be paid before a plot deed will be issued.
6. All interment fees must be paid before burial. All arrangements must be made through a funeral
director.
*7. The Cemetery Committee reserves the right to remove or repair, after due notice to the lot
owner, if possible, and at the owner’s expense, any monument, effigy or inscription which, in
the opinion of the majority of Committee members, is unsightly or dangerous. (add “if possible”
to the statement)
8. The Cemetery Committee reserves the right to remove all flowers, wreaths, or other decorations from lots as soon as they become unsightly.
9. Trees and shrubs are not allowed to be planted.
10. The following should be observed in connection with decorating graves:
A. No glass containers of any kind shall be allowed on the Cemetery.
B. If flowers are planted, they must be set directly behind the marker. Urns and
flowerpots placed on graves must be at least 10” in diameter and placed in line
with the tombstone or marker.
*C. All refuse must be placed in the containers furnished by the Cemetery. Yard waste
(dead flowers etc.) should be placed in the compost bin located at the entrance.
11. Interment services must be completed by 4:00 pm in order that workmen will have sufficient
time to properly close the grave and remove equipment before 5:30 pm.
12. All funerals, processions and vehicles will be under the control of the Funeral Director while in
the Cemetery.
13. No vault or mausoleum shall be built above ground without the permission of the Cemetery
Committee, and then only in such location as it may approve.
14. No mausoleum will be approved for construction by the Cemetery Committee unless a sufficient
endowment is set up to provide adequate income to maintain the structure.
*15. All work done in the Cemetery shall be done by contract under the control of the Cemetery
Committee or its chairman. Should be chairperson.
16. All monuments shall be set in accordance with the general plan of the Cemetery and shall
conform with said plan in size and material.
17. Monuments are restricted in size to dimensions which will not cover more than 76% of the
surface area allowed for the marker. Every monument shall be at least 5 inches in thickness.
18. Monuments or markers must be of granite or bronze.
*19. All foundations will be constructed under the direction of the Cemetery Committee or their
designee.
20. The bases of all monuments shall be finished true and level so as to fit on the foundation without
wedging or spawls.
21. No monument shall be allowed to be delivered to the Cemetery until the foundation is installed
and ready to receive the monument.
22. Heavy trucking or other vehicular traffic shall be refused entrance to the Cemetery when, in the
opinion of the Chairman, injury to lawns and driveways result.
23. All persons shall be allowed access to the Cemetery during daylight hours, observing the rules
which are in effect and the propriety due the Cemetery.
24. All lot owners are required to notify the Cemetery Committee of any change in address. All
notices required to be sent shall be sent to the last recorded address, and such notice shall be
deemed adequate.
25. These Rules and Regulations may be amended by the Cemetery Committee, but no
amendments shall be effective until approved by the members of the Holy Cross Evangelical
Lutheran Church Council and signed by the Council President and the Cemetery Chairman.
